My Story
A journey to discovering my passion
Growing up in Hong Kong, I had no idea what I wanted to do when I grow up.
After graduating with a degree in Economics, I worked in finance for over a decade where I spent my days in fluorescent lit offices building spreadsheets, not knowing that what I really wanted was to build something real with my hands.
The turning point came in early 2024 when I lost my job in a layoff. I had no idea what I was going to do next but what I did know was that I didn't want to put the proverbial Patagonia vest back on and sit in an office again for another decade.
Knowing that I've always had an interest in woodworking (or perhaps to get me out of the house), Julia, my wife and best friend, signed me up for a woodworking class. This sparked a passion and dedication for the craft. I picked up my apron and chisel and never looked back.
With some trial and error, and a lot of help from my friend and mentor, Ulli, I founded Choi Woodworks to share my love for woodworking.
I now dedicate my time to designing and building a range of wooden products including toys, home decor and furniture products. Every piece that comes out of our doors is crafted with purpose, patience and passion.
